Open Water Readiness

Coaching for swimmers with a swimming base preparing for supervised open-water swimming or events.

Who It’s For

For swimmers who are comfortable swimming in a pool and want preparation for supervised open-water sessions or an open-water event.

We work towards your goal while considering the environment and your confidence in less predictable conditions.

Before We Start

You need to demonstrate both:

  • A 200m continuous swim
  • 1 minute of treading water

Meeting these requirements is a starting point. I’ll also check whether the planned session and environment suit you before accepting you for open-water coaching.

What We Can Work On

  • Open-water confidence and sighting
  • Pacing and breathing in changing conditions
  • Starts, entries and exits where relevant
  • Event preparation and supervised open-water sessions

Readiness Is Reviewed for Each Session

Weather, water conditions, entry and exit points, and how you feel that day all matter. A session may be changed, moved to a pool or cancelled when it isn’t suitable.

Open Water Readiness is not permanent safety clearance and does not mean you are safe to swim alone.

Your progress follows your goal, current focus and next target, rather than another level system.

Let’s talk about your goals.

Tell me about the swimmer and what you’d like to work on.
